Throughout history, Jesus Christ has always been portrayed as someone moralising. In fact he was a rebel - what I wanted to do was to de-moralise the pictures of him by taking him off the cross and putting him amongst the people. By adding prison tattoos with specific romanticised meanings on this famous Rubens painting,  I portray Jesus as the human that he was. Works of Rubens are almost considered holy and therefore they usually remain untouched. By using these typical visual elements of the marginalised parts of society, I challenge the way we see the term "holy".
